The production of Model 3 – Tesla’s long-awaited electric vehicle targeted the buyer on the mass market – has been the focus of talks since the car was unveiled in May 2016. Since then, Tesla has suffered numerous manufacturing difficulties as demand for cars exploded almost immediately.

Elon Musk predicts that Tesla could make 20,000 Model 3 units per month until December 2017, but despite records on total car production (Model S, Model X and Model 3), Tesla received criticism from investors for that it has missed its forecast production of Model 3 with a significant margin.

However the last Monday, Tesla announced that it had produced a total of 53,339 vehicles in the last quarter and 28,578 of these cars are Model 3. As visualized by this Statista chart, it is three times more than the more affordable model produced in the first quarter. So for the first time, the electric vehicle for the mass market took over half of all Tesla cars produced within three months.

In fact, the total number of cars produced is significantly higher than the one in the previous quarter – twice as much as the production of cars at the same time last year and more than all in 2015 combined. Source: Business Insider
