The release of Android P later this year is expected with huge interest, but in addition to support notch for the new type is displays, the operating system can also borrow something else from the iPhone X. 9to5Google reports that the new feature will use a swipe up gesture to reveal the multitasking UI.

This feature was accidentally revealed in an Android developers blog post where the redesigned navigation bar was seen in a screenshot of Android P device. Google has now removed the screenshot but it is still available in its cached copy.

It shows a completely new type of navigation buttons – instead of the usual three (Backwards, Home and Multitasking) that we have known for years, we see only a back button and tape similar to the iPhone X.

The image itself does not tell us anything about the functionality, but 9to5Google claims that Google tested gesture management through the bar, where upslide is launching the multitasking view as in the iPhone X.

The back button disappears when is not in use for example when you are on the home screen. Traditionally, Google experiments with many features, some of which do not reach the final version.

We expect Google to make an Android P demonstration within I/O in May, the feature to stay in the final version of the operating system is very possible. Given the fact that the company is now fully supporting screen notches like the iPhone X, a gesture-based navigation bar would definitely make it easier for developers to use the bezel-less displays in a better way.
