Important iOS Source Code for iPhone Leaked on GitHub
An extremely important and secret code from the iPhone’s operating system was published on the popular GitHub software platform. This will give hackers new opportunities to gain unauthorized access to the devices.
The code, called iBoot, was removed shortly thereafter, but Apple itself had little thought and rushed to confirm that the vulnerability was serious by promptly requesting it to be removed from GitHub. iBoot is an iOS code to securely start and verify the kernel before booting the operating system.
The leak on GitHub was for iOS 9 version, but many of the same code is in the iOS 11. The leaked version was not complete, but experienced hackers who know what they are looking for can identify vulnerabilities.
Apple has released the following statement:
“Old source code from three years ago appears to have been leaked, but by design the security of our products doesn’t depend on the secrecy of our source code. There are many layers of hardware and software protections built into our products, and we always encourage customers to update to the newest software releases to benefit from the latest protections.”
According to the famous cyber security specialist Jonathan Levin, the event is of extreme importance because it can lead to full unlocking of iOS devices and an emulator for the operating system.
