The Japanese giant Nintendo has announced that will release its popular Mario Kart series for mobile devices. Nintendo hinted at the upcoming Mario Kart Tour, which is expected to be released in March 2019.

It’s a long way and unfortunately we don’t have more details for now. But for most enthusiasts, confirmation itself is extremely exciting news. Mario Kart is one of the most recognizable IPs in Nintendo’s history and continues to sell well today.

Yesterday Nintendo revealed that Mario Kart 8 Deluxe sold more than 7.3 million copies for Switch since its release in April last year. This means that half of the buyers of Switch devices play it.

Nintendo announced its intention to start developing smartphone games in 2015. To date, Super Mario Run, Fire Emblem Heroes and Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp have been released. The social application Miitom has not been successful and will be discontinued in May.

According to Wall Street Journal sources, Mario Kart is the only franchise to be launched for mobile devices. Last year there were rumors that Legend Of Zelda would also be available for smartphones, but Nintendo did not confirm this.
