Microsoft Will Use AI and Machine Learning to Discover a Cure for Cancer
Healthcare NexT, one of Microsoft’s initiatives, is now linked to expanding the use of artificial intelligence and machine learning to research on deadly diseases and their treatment.
The company believes that cancer cells can be treated as a virus or bug in a computer system. By combining health research, artificial intelligence and expertise from healthcare partners, Microsoft hopes to integrate innovative technologies into cancer treatment and cure it once and for all.
Peter Lee, vice president of Healthcare NexT, says the challenge is big, but technologies like cloud, AI and business optimization tools will be central to transforming the approach to cancer.
“If you look at the combination of things that Microsoft does really well, then it makes perfect sense for Microsoft to be in this industry,” said Andrew Phillips, head of the biological computation research group at Microsoft’s Cambridge lab, in a Microsoft Story Labs post. “We can use methods that we’ve developed for programming computers to program biology, and then unlock even more applications and even better treatments.”
Machine learning will help detect tumor formations so that a treatment option can be decided quickly. Microsoft will literally try to hack biology and reprogram it, and this is a truly ambitious task, which may have more and more applications from now on.
“We are incredibly energized about the opportunities to make a difference in health care,” said Microsoft. “We’ve been listening carefully to our customers and partners within the health care sector, and we’ve heard their message: Let’s work together, innovate together and create solutions that can empower people to lead healthier lives.” Post from: GizBrain Source: Microsoft Story / Labshttp://szlifestyle.com/sz/2017/11/08/microsoft-use-ai-machine-learning-cure-cancer/https://i1.wp.com/szlifestyle.com/sz/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/Microsoft-Story-Labs.jpg?fit=900%2C468https://i1.wp.com/szlifestyle.com/sz/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/Microsoft-Story-Labs.jpg?resize=180%2C150MICROSOFTTECH NEWSAI,Artificial Intelligence,MicrosoftHealthcare NexT, one of Microsoft's initiatives, is now linked to expanding the use of artificial intelligence and machine learning to research on deadly diseases and their treatment.
