Gamevice sues Nintendo over patent infringing for the Switch Controller
Nintendo Switch looks like a gaming tablet and there’s nothing wrong with it. But according to Gamevice, things do not stop there, and the hybrid console has probably stolen her design idea.
The accessories manufacturer claims that Nintendo is directly violating the patent for the Wikipad gaming Android tablet, and the pair of Switch’s controllers is in violation of Gamevice’s idea for additional phone and tablet controllers.
Gamevice’s claim is that Switch and its controllers are too similar to the company’s design, and in response, it wants both compensation and a ban on Switch’s sales. So far neither of the two side has commented on what is happening to the media.
Nintendo has sold 4.7 million units of Switch since it launched the console in March this year, according to the Japanese company’s latest earnings report. Demand for the console helped the Japanese company achieve revenue of 154.07 billion yen ($1.41 billion) and operating profit of 16.21 billion yen in its first quarter.
The Wikipad tablet was announced in 2012 and promised advanced features such as a 3D image without glasses and streaming games. Unfortunately, a series of delays and design changes reduced enthusiasm, and although the device was not a complete failure, Gamevice eventually dropped it and focus to mobile accessories.
