Andy Rubin’s Essential smartphone is here and is different
The smartphone Essential of Andy Rubin, the person who is behind the creation of Android, is finally here. This is his idea of how an Android smartphone should look like in the future. This is a bold design with end-to-end display with a larger area even than the Galaxy S8.
In addition to its thin bezels and impressive screen-to-body ratio, the 5.71-inch panel boasts a QHD resolution of 2560×1312 as well as an unusual 19:10 aspect ratio. And that’s not all, because the smartphone is modular, its relying on magnetic connectors at the back.
Essential has a Qualcomm 835 processor, 4 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage and a 3040 mAh battery, the phone is powered by Android (version 7.1.1). It will also come with a 360-degree camera that you can connect as a module on the top of the device. The company will also offer a charging station. Both accessories will be connected to the phone with small magnetic pins.
Essential does not have a 3.5 mm audio jack, but it will be sold with headphones in the box that will be able to connect to the USB-C port with an adapter. We may also see other audio accessories compatible with his magnetic connectors.
Essential has a dual camera that we have already seen on other phones. But instead of using the second lens for telephoto or bokee, the phone uses it as a monochrome sensor, just like the Huawei P9 and P10. The main camera sensor is 13 megapixel, and this on the front is 8 megapixel, which can make video with 4K resolution.
Rubin is also avoiding a company name or symbol. While there’s plenty of room on the back for the Essential’s double-circle logo, Rubin is making a statement with the phone’s unadorned glass: “Just because we played a part in making it doesn’t mean you should be forced to advertise that fact to everyone in your life. Now you know why we don’t have any logos on the phone.”
Essential comes in four main colors: Black Moon, Stellar Gray, Pure White and Ocean Depths. The Essential Phone is available for preorder for the limited-time at a price of $699. It’s unlocked and can be used with all of the major U.S. carriers. Source: Essential.
