Intel is a market leader in computer processors, but never managed to establish itself in the mobile segment. However, the company looks forward positively by investing heavily in the development of 5G technologies.

Behind this vision for the future lies not just an idea of participation and willingness, Intel want’s to become a leader in next generation mobile technology, which will include not only smartphones but also related technologies such as cars, drones and a bunch of other devices.

So far 5G is undefined concept that has been outlined, but its details are still being discussed in the industry. Therefore, and Intel is trying to be part of the game as soon as possible, and today announced its first 5G modem. The purpose of this is to allow other companies to test 5G in their upcoming products based on Intel, include “cars, home connectivity, mobile devices and other”.

In the case of Intel’s hope is that companies that test new technology with its modems will focus on them and their final products. In theory, it sounds easy, but in practice things are a little trickier. First Intel is not the only company with plans for 5G.

The main competitor here is Qualcomm, which is the market leader in LTE segment and is already working on testing solutions from next generation with the US telecom AT&T.

In turn AT&T announced at CES 2017 plans for further cooperation with Qualcomm for 5G tests later in the year. From a positive perspective, Intel presented some LTE modems versions for iPhone 7, which is one of its biggest successes into the mobile industry.

In any case, the battle for 5G is in its infancy, and most importantly on the issue yet about to happen. Plans of the industry are building the first commercial networks to launch in 2020. Therefore, the mass implementation will take at least several years, and until then it is not clear whether there will be success of the efforts of Intel. Post from: GizBrain
