Sony will buy the sensors business of Toshiba for $165 million
The last accounting scandal in Toshiba can cost a lot more than just a CEO and a serious amount of cash. According to Bloomberg, Japan Times and Reuters – Toshiba is expected to sell its business of camera sensors (his manufacturing plant) to Sony for about $165 million in a bid to raise funds. None of the companies mentioned above, has not confirmed the rumor, but the reports say negotiations are so advanced that we could see an official announcement next week. The sale will mark the end of an era for Toshiba, although this is no surprise to those familiar with the history.
While Toshiba has a large customer for its sensors but Sony definitely doing better since its sensors are used in many more devices and deliver higher quality. 20-megapixel camera in the HTC One M9 is made by Toshiba and it is clear evidence of the differences in quality compared to sensors from Sony. Sony meanwhile separate division for its cameras in a separate company as part of a plan to increase accountability. Now if Sony acquires the businesses with sensors of Toshiba, it will get additional capacity and know-how that will help her remain on the top.
