The new album Compton by Dr. Dre was Streamed 25 million times in the first week
The last album of hip-hop guru Dr. Dre accumulate 25 million in hearings at Apple Music in the first week after its debut. Data for the success of Compton were reported by Apple representatives to The New York Times, but it was not clear whether the figures relate only to listen to the whole album or include streaming of individual songs. Besides the significant number of hearings, the album also enjoys a sizable sales in iTunes – in the first week were bought half a million copies. Compton debuted in the Apple Music after presenting a radio show by Dr. Dre, and the publication of the album on iTunes happened days after the official premiere.
Despite the enormous popularity and legacy of Dr. Dre, the success of Compton does not look so impressive when compared to past albums of other artists of the genre, as Kendrick Lamar and Drake, who managed to accumulate respectively 39 and 48 million streamed in the first week. The reason for this probably lies in the strategy of distribution – both artists use social media to promote their new albums and published them in various streaming services.
