Roboto font is now open source
Font Roboto, which Google introduced with Android Ice Cream Sandwich, is now open source. All files and many of the resources used to create the font are available at GitHub and everyone can make modifications. Since its introduction, the font has gradually become an important part of the visual identity of Google and is used in more and more products of the company. Roboto is the main system font in Android and Chrome OS and is widely used in products such as Inbox and Google Play Music. Google’s move is definitely interesting. We would not expect such a decision from Apple, whose San Francisco font will soon be the solution by default in the operating systems of the Apple. The font was created for better readability on the small screen of Apple Watch, but we expect to see it in future versions of iOS and OS X.
