Uncharted 4 with an impressive facial animation
Hardly wait Ucharterd 4: A Thief’s End this year, but Sony has announced that the title will make its debut in the spring of 2016. The news is even more difficult to adopt because of Gamespot revealed more information about the system for facial animation that makes Nathan Drake more real.
Developer Naughty Dog continues its good work from Uncharted 3 and The Last of Us, but now faces the characters are animated with “between 300 and 500 bones.” We assume that you remember how good looking characters in these games. Interestingly, there are used between 90 and 100 bones, explains Josh Sher, writer of Uncharted 4. “Fully Altered facial animation system,” he added.
“This allows us to express stronger feelings – the camera rotates around the face of Drake, who climb the rock, and we can see every little grimace that makes. Emphasize both the large and small details, and this is something people will certainly give serious consideration,” explains Ricky Cambier, chief designer of the game.
In previous games Naughty Dogs are forced to model some of the animations at 10-15 frames per second in order to save memory. Then use code that simulates 30 fps. New technologies allow the studio to make cartoons directly in 30 frames per second, which will lead to a much smoother and real facial expressions.
The desire of Naughty Dog’s Uncharted 4 to go with 60fps, but is still not clear how to deal with this console. According Cambier game developers are still in the early days of the PS4. Demo, which you can see in the video below the text is fixed at 30fps, even though the game reaches a higher frame rate.
