Randy Ubillos, head of the photo and video division at Apple, announced that he is leaving the company and will retire. His name is not so popular among consumers, but its contribution to the videographers is huge. Ubillos develops the first three versions of Premiere at Macromedia, and later creates Final Cut, which later Apple acquired.

Today, Adobe Premiere and Final Cut are two of the most popular tool for video editing both used in multi-million dollar productions and by enthusiasts. In his last years at Apple Ubillos was working on Final Cut X, iMovie and iPhoto, but we don’t know whether he was involved in the development of Photos for Mac.

His retirement is another confirmation that the professional software for video editing is no longer a priority for Apple. We hope that Final Cut and Logic will continue to be develop in the future.
