Google today released new statistics showing the distribution of the various versions of the mobile operating system Android. It appears that the latest version Android Lollipop is already installed on 5.4% of the devices.

Android 5.0 Lollipop is on installed 5% of all devices and Android 5.1 Lollipop is responsible for 0.4%. Last month, the spread was about 3%.

Android KitKat holds the crown with its 41.4% market share, followed by Android Jelly Bean with 40.7%. Ice Cream Sandwich is responsible for 5.7%, Android Gingerbread has a 6.4% market share. Finally, it is Android Froyo with its 0.4%. Apple often talks about the fragmentation in the Android Operation System, when we watch this statistic definitely true. This results can’t surprise us, when we think how many Android devices have on the market, and many of them even now are sold with old versions of the Android OS, probably they will never receive update to Lollipop. The share of Android Lollipop will never reach the share of the latest Apple iOS. In the next few years we will witness even bigger fragmentation.
