Streaming overtake CD-th in revenues in the US
Dominance of streaming services over all other methods of listening to music is inevitable. First year Spotify, Rdio, Pandora and Beats Music outpaced sales revenues CD-ROMs in the US. In 2014 streaming services generated 1.87 billion dollars (29% jump compared to 2013), while CDs fell by 12.7 percent to 1.85 billion dollars. The big winner is still the standard buying digital copies with 37% of the market and 2.57 billion dollars in revenue. Streaming is the only one segment, which reported a big jump in for this year.
The main problem for artists and labels behind them is that services like Spotify have lower revenues in the first few years. Unlike standard albums that generate the majority of their profits in the first few months listening to streaming services can be profitable decades later.
