Google introduced the second generation of its Chromebook Pixel
Just two weeks ago Renee Niemi from Google mentioned that the company intends to launch the second generation Chromebook Pixel laptop, albeit in very limited numbers. Today Chromebook Pixel 2 is already a reality and the first thing that strikes you is … well, does not. The design is preserved, which is not bad because before looked good. Renewed internal elements are provided a better battery life and perhaps the most distinctive is the reduced price – $999.
Yes, it is not cheap Chromebook laptop, but it really brings a premium feel and has pretty decent features. Google also will sell and LS version of the new Chromebok Pixel as LS stands Ludicrous Speed.
Ordinary version of the new Chromebook Pixel comes with Intel Core i5 processor, 8 GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. LS model has a faster processor Core i7, 16GB RAM and a 64GB SSD, and the price is $300 more.
The screen is 3:2 and has a resolution of 2560×1700 pixels and it remains unchanged in the new model, although by Google to say that there is a wider color range than before. The strange thing is that Google will offer LTE version or at least does not mention this.
Chromebook Pixel 2 will last up to 12 hours between charges. Google also says that you can get two hours use for only 15 minutes of charging. The other big news is the addition of two USB Type-C port that can be used to charge the laptop, data transfer or connection to an external monitor or TV.
Unlike the new MacBook to Apple, the new Pixel has two traditional USB 3.0 port and reader full-size SD card and a standard headphone jack. The only thing is omitted HDMI port, but it becomes redundant because of the new USB Type-C.
Other enhancements include more robust hinge for less “bounce” when using the touch screen, improved trackpad and keyboard and wide-angle camera. Google also say they have “cleaned” the design of the new Pixel hid as speaker grilles, vents and screws. If you pay almost a thousand dollars for a laptop that is only good for web surfing, further attention to detail is precious.
Both versions of the new Chromebook Pixel are available for purchase today of the new Web Store Google store.google.com. More about Google’s vision for USB Type-C in the next video.
