MEMS sensors explained
MEMS – sounds completely unknown, but likely your home has at least some of these so-called “microelectromechanical systems”. Where to search for them? Almost everywhere – microscopic sensors can be found in almost all types of consumer electronics ranging from smartphones and tablets and reach fitness trackers, game consoles and virtual reality glasses.
MEMS sensors are only a few millimeters long and are typically made of silicon, having, everyday in the world are produced at least three million of these. Each MEMS sensor has the capability to measure subtle movements which occur in the areas not larger than the diameter of one atom.
MEMS and nanotechnology can register information as mechanical and biological data. Most MEMS sensors detect electrical current and thus obtain data on things like position, geomagnetic field, acceleration, etc., and then send that data to other mechanisms in the device we use, for example to the accelerometer in our fitness tracker or smartphone, but also in microphone , gyroscope, e-compass and others.
Devices using MEMS
MEMS are not only used in small consumer gadgets like smart watches or fitness trackers. Such sensors have even airplanes, their role is to detect air flow and react to it in flight. Integrated in cars, even, MEMS try to make driving safer and economically.
One of the areas that rely heavily on MEMS, is virtual reality: thanks to these sensors, VR devices recognize gestures of users and help them navigate through the virtual space. MEMS are also at the heart of the Internet of Things – the concept for smart connected home full of smart thermostats, ovens or refrigerators.
Future of MEMS
Due to the popularity of smartphones are used, MEMS today are significantly cheaper production as before. In the future, sensors will become smaller and more energy efficient. Even now different companies worldwide make MEMS sensors with new capabilities that record things such as pressure, humidity, temperature, air quality in the home and so on. The future of technology is really exciting and completely proves the statement that great opportunities come in small packages.http://szlifestyle.com/sz/2015/01/19/mems-sensors-explained/https://i0.wp.com/szlifestyle.com/sz/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/sz_MEMS_sensors.jpg?fit=950%2C534https://i0.wp.com/szlifestyle.com/sz/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/sz_MEMS_sensors.jpg?resize=150%2C150TECH NEWSExplained,TechnologyMEMS - sounds completely unknown, but likely your home has at least some of these so-called 'microelectromechanical systems'.
