According to Taiwanese publication DigiTimes online Chinese smartphone market will mark a significant growth in 2014 and will reach 422 million units, which would be an increase of over 30% compared to 2013. The biggest share will fall to local producers who expect to sell about 278 million smartphones, while major international players such as Apple and Samsung will sell 144 million smartphones.
Again, according to DigiTimes, however, the year will be good for all local producers because serious price competition will concentrate sales in several large companies and smaller local players will start to experience serious difficulties. The publication also notes that larger Chinese manufacturers are already oriented to the external market, which until recently was not common practice with them. More local companies are starting to look with interest especially to emerging markets, where they can be competitive on the international leaders. The main Chinese manufacturers predict exports amounted to 126 million units by the end of the year, a major share will be Lenovo, Huawei and ZTE.
