According to a publication on the website of Free Software Foundation Paul Kochalkovski, which deals with development of a version of Android named Replicant, many devices from the Samsung Galaxy series have a back door that allows access to user information. He was found running in the background related to the communication processor, which allows for full remote access to the phone’s memory – write, read, and delete. In some of the company’s phones this program has sufficient privileges to modify personal information.

According Kochalkovski no evidence that the addition of the back door is intentional in order to gain access to user information, but it exists and it raises the question of whether someone will use it to hurt. By Replicant published a modified version of that RIL library and also provide more details on affected devices.
