Here’s the difference between Snapdragon chipsets 800 and 801
During the Congress, Qualcomm revealed a new representative of the series chipset Snapdragon, which should engage our attention before the market appear first products with the top model Snapdragon 805, we expect the second half of the year. It’s about Snapdragon 801, which debuted in Barcelona in three new devices – Samsung Galaxy S5, Sony Xperia Z2 and Xperia Z2 Tablet. Immediately and confusion as the processor in Galaxy S5 is clocked at 2.5GHz, while Sony products it is 2.3GHz – as a Snapdragon 800.
What is the difference? Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 uses the name for all their chips with number MSM8974, which have four cores Krait 400 graphics accelerator Adreno 330, Cat 4 LTE modem, 64 -bit memory interface and two ISP chip. At the same time the chips have two revisions – v2 is Snapdragon 800 and v3 is Snapdragon 801. Moreover, different variants differ in their indices. For example Snapdragon 800 has VV, AA and AB versions which have different frequencies CPU (2.2GHz or 2.3GHz) and GPU (450MHz or 550MHz).
Snapdragon 801 in turn is a product of improved product lines Snapdragon 800 that allow Qualcomm to squeeze more performance out of the same design, and raise the operating frequency. This chipset also has three different versions depending on the frequency of the processor (2.3GHz and 2.5GHz) and GPU (450MHz and 578MHz), but it also changes the frequency of the ISP.
The other major difference is the compatibility with hardware and eMMC 5.0 support dual-sim, dual-active phones. Working with eMMC 5.0 is important because it will double the speed of data transfer through the interface to 400MB /s, and this will allow faster copying large files from PC to phone with USB 3.0. In addition, the wider bandwidth of memory will improve performance in high-end games, especially those with 3D graphics.
Higher processor frequency will result in faster loading of web pages and opening applications, and that the graphics chip will be reflected in increasing the frame rate of the games. ISP chip in turn will help in faster processing of information from the camera. Generally this will also reduce the power consumption, since the tasks will be performed in a shorter time.
