Android overtake iOS on tablets
Once permanently occupied first place in smartphones, Android platform and took the tablet market by amending the iOS of Apple. In 2013 sold 195 million tablets, up from 68% the previous year, according to a report by Gartner. Topping the devices with Android, sales of which amounted to 121 million from 53 million in 2012. This result gives the Android share of 62 % for tablets, compared with 46% in the previous year. Meanwhile, sales of the iPad have increased from 61 to 70 million units, but the share of Apple has fallen from 53% to 36% and iOS platform is no longer a leader in the market for tablets.
A key reason for the success of Android is the ability of the platform to run on devices from different price categories, notes Gartner. In 2013 tablets have become a mass product, and consumers were given a wide variety of devices based on Android – within their budgets and with good features. Apple continues to be a significant player, especially in the premium devices. The approach of the company is forcing other players to compete with the whole ecosystem, even when small-screen devices such as iPad mini.
